The Spartanburg County Public Libraries are partnering with the Division of Languages, Literature, and Composition at University of South Carolina (USC) Upstate to host the first Upstate Writing Month (UpWriMo) in June.
During the month, a diverse group of local and regional writers will present workshops, readings, and various presentations. All events are free and open to the public. These events will take place at the main campus of the university as well as at other locations in Spartanburg, including Hub City Bookshop, Hatcher Garden, Woodland Preserve, and the Spartanburg Headquarters Library.

Those who participate in this monthlong event will be able to learn about many writing types, such as the writing of memoirs, flash fiction, and grants, as well as screenwriting and songwriting, among others.
Presenters that will be part of the event include Susan RiversBrock Adams, George Williams, LaTracey McDowell, and Wayne Robbins.
June 1 will be the kickoff for UpWriMo and will begin at noon where Tessa Fontaine, author of ‘The Electric Woman: A Memoir in Death-Defying Acts’, will be featured. UpWriMo will end on Saturday, June 29 in the afternoon with Cinelle Barnes, author of ‘Monsoon Mansion: A Memoir’, in the Health Education Complex of USC Upstate in the JM Smith Board Room.
