The hospital will span close to 241,000 square feet and will increase access in the region to well-known vascular and heart services, support procedures of a more advanced nature, and streamline connections to specialty and primary physicians. The new hospital will sit between Serpentine Drive and the current Heart Center.
The hospital will have 14 coronary care unit beds and 90 beds for acute care for a total of 104 new beds. There will also be 24 beds for catheterization lab patients before and after procedures, and additional space for diagnostics and procedures. A new cutting-edge Cardiovascular Recovery Unit will be created as well as space for expansion of the Structural Heart Program. Brochure printing can be used to provide more details on such new facilities and their services.
The Board of Trustees of the Spartanburg Regional Health Services District, Inc. and the Spartanburg City Council approved the funding.
Medical director of cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Jason Rousseau, said:
“The new hospital gives us the space and technology to diagnose and treat more patients, and provide comprehensive care in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and vascular surgery to the community.”
Construction of the hospital is being done in phases and will open in 2030.
