The Trelleborg Wheel Systems plant in Spartanburg was recently dedicated in a colorful opening ceremony. This is the fifth company owned by a foreign country to set up a South Carolina manufacturing base.
The new facility, measuring 150,000 square feet in size, is still increasing its production. Large heavy-duty tires for combines, tractors, and other heavy equipment suited to the forestry and farming industry will be made. The company plans to hire 150 people, many of whom will most likely require premium Business Cards.
According to the president of the business unit for agriculture and forestry tires at Trelleborg, Paolo Pompei, one of the reasons for choosing Spartanburg for the facility was the tire industry already in existence in South Carolina, and that it is considered to be the heart of tire manufacture. Michelin was the first company in the industry to build its first facility in the United States in 1975 in southern Greenville County, and since then, Giti, Continental, and Bridgestone have built plants as well.
During the grand opening, executives from Trelleborg said that the agriculture market in North America is the biggest in the world, accounting for 51% of the global sales of agricultural machinery.
Having a plant in North America will enable the company to overcome many of the obstacles faced by this market, including import duties, shipping costs, and fluctuations in currency.
