Blue Meridian has awarded Spartanburg funds so that, along with some private investment, the city will be able to launch the Movement 2030 Plan.
CEO of the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM), Dr. Russell Booker, said this will not only change the lives of individual people but the community as well. Movement 2030 is a plan to advance educational attainment and economic mobility in Spartanburg County. The Movement 2030 Plan will use $100 million to increase educational opportunities and outcomes while also removing barriers to education. Most of the funds will be dedicated to the Highland and Northside neighborhoods of Spartanburg. Booker said that these two neighborhoods already have in place the infrastructure for these goals so the focus will be on bringing the needed resources to the families and children in those communities.
The funds will be used for academic success coaches who will work with the children in those communities. There will also be navigators in those communities to help families connect with existing resources. The goal of the Movement 2030 Plan is to have an impact on every level of education from pre-kindergarten through those in the workforce.
Some of the funds received will also go to over 30 non-profit organizations in the county.
