Spartanburg native develops new cookie flavor

A new flavor of Girl Scout cookies will be available in select cities for purchase next year.

The Toast-Yay! cookie was developed by Andre Sojourner, a native of Spartanburg and an alumnus of South Carolina (SC) State University. The cookie is inspired by French toast in the shape of tiny pieces of the toast and then dipped in icing. Such new items are often promoted with poster printing services during periods of high-volume sales.

Sojourner expressed his excitement about creating this new cookie flavor that many will be able to enjoy. He works as a food scientist and takes pleasure from seeing consumers watch the process of developing food.

He added that when he creates new food items, he wants to make sure that they not only satisfy the needs of his clients, but will also be enjoyed and savored. He said that as much as understands the scientific and technical components of the food industry, he also looks to his own experiences as someone who enjoys food, and is also a consumer when he develops new products.

When he was at SC State, Sojourner was a member of The Louis Stokes South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation Program and of the Beta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, and was vice president of the Student Government Association.

The Toast-Yay! Cookie will be recognized on the national level beginning in January 2021.
