A new agreement recently signed between Spartanburg Community College and Columbia College will enable graduates of the Community College to take classes to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia.
President of Spartanburg Community College, Henry Giles, and president of Columbia College, Elizabeth Dinndorf, signed the agreement. This agreement will add to the seven other colleges with which the college has such agreements. These include Midlands Tech, Piedmont Tech, Horry Georgetown Tech, and Central Carolina Tech.
This will be part of the University Transfer program of Spartanburg Community College that will enable graduates to take an additional 55 credit hours of coursework with faculty of Columbia College on the campus at Spartanburg, and not incur any additional travel costs.
According to President Giles, the hope is that as students will be familiar with the location of the Community College that they will be more motivated to complete the associate’s and bachelor’s degrees.
President Dinndorf added that a valuable educational experience is provided by the technical community colleges in the state, and the two colleges wanted to make it more convenient for those who have completed an associate’s degree have the opportunity to earn a Bachelor’s degree.
The two colleges might want to work together with a brochure printing company to create a brochure with more details about the new association and the potential programs of study.
