BMW will be manufacturing electronic vehicles at its plant in Spartanburg, and will be building a facility for the assembly of batteries in Spartanburg County.
This will be an investment of $1.7bn in total, with $700m to build the new high-voltage battery assembly facility in Woodruff and $1bn to produce the electric vehicles in Spartanburg. Envision AESC is partnering with BMW to build the facility in Woodruff, which will provide batteries for the plant in Spartanburg.
The plant in Woodruff will span over one million square feet and will create 300 new jobs. Most likely, such supervisory and managerial positions will require business card printing services.
German car giant BMW established the plant in Spartanburg 30 years ago and began production just two years later. The plant has become the center for the production of Sports Activity Vehicles for the company and an important component for the global production network of the company. BMW has been the largest exporter of vehicles from the United States by value for the past eight years. The plant produces up to 450,000 vehicles a year and employs over 11,000 people, representing an investment of close to $12bn.
BMW will begin production of its new hybrid-electric BMW XM later this year, and will have at least six fully electric models built in South Carolina by 2030.
