On December 4, students at the Hendrix Elementary School in Spartanburg received more than 780 pairs of shoes that were donated by the members of NewSpring Church in Boiling Springs.
New Balance sneakers were given to every student from all the grade levels in the school. According to Tina Humphries, principal of the school, many of the students were very excited about their new shoes, adding that many will most likely say that they can jump higher and run faster as a result.
NewSpring has several congregations throughout South Carolina, and these have also donated shoes to local schools in the Upstate and other regions.
According to the pastor of NewSpring in Boiling Springs, Cameron O’Sullivan, the church contacted District 2 and learned that a good place for the shoe donation would be Hendrix Elementary. O’Sullivan commented that the church likes to give back to the community and being able to partner with schools is one the best ways it can do so.
O’Sullivan added some of the student have either outgrown their shoes or worn the same pair for far too long, so this represented a good opportunity to make a difference.
