The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is currently working on safety improvements to a road that will include a new trail east of Spartanburg connecting the Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail to Glendale Shoals.
This road is 3.3 miles long. The improvements will widen the narrow shoulders from Hilton Street to Clifton Glendale Road. On the north side of Country Club Road there will be a new trail expected to attract more people to Glendale Shoals – a preserve spanning 13 acres along Lawsons Fork Creek.

Executive director of Play. Advocate. Live Well!, Laura Ringo, said that the extension of the Daniel Morgan Trail System along Country Club Road will be a transformative experience for the eastern part of the city. Ringo added that there will be many inconveniences over the next year while construction is taking place, but believes it will be worth it in the long run.
Expected to be completed by 2025, the project is expected to cost $24m and is being undertaken by Palmetto Corporation of Conway. This cost includes design, acquisitions for right-of-way, construction, and the relocation of utilities. Among the improvements to the road will be eliminating stormwater drainage and the removal of deep ditches.
