The American Red Cross of Upstate South Carolina is holding an event focusing on fire safety in the home.
As part of ‘Sound the Alarm’, volunteers are needed to assist in Spartanburg County with the installation of 1,000 smoke alarms. The Red Cross is also looking to raise funds for lifesaving services and smoke alarm installation events during the event.
Flyer printing can be used to inform those in the community of such needs and what they can do to help.
The goal of the organization is to find 30,000 volunteers to install 100,000 smoke alarms at no cost to individuals, and enable families to create fire escape plans for their homes. These alarms are being installed in high-risk communities in the area.
Regional partners include State Farm, G&P Trucking Company in Columbia, Williams Brice Charitable Trust, Southeastern Freight lines, and John I. Smith Charities. The Red Cross is also working with FIE Safe SC and several fire departments in the area.
The several events of Sound the Alarm are part of the Home Fire Campaign, which was launched in 2014 by the Red Cross around the country or reduce injuries and deaths that result from fires. Nationwide, this campaign has saved more than 500 lives and helped over 1.7 million people, while in Upstate South Carolina over 20,000 smoke alarms have been installed.
The event will run from April 27 through May 12.
