New healthy eating concept comes to Spartanburg

The first Smoothie King in Spartanburg County will be coming to the Palmetto Village Center in Spartanburg.

It will be in a space that measures 1,500 square feet in size. Owners Derek and Lavon Bullard of Charlotte, North Carolina, plan to begin construction this month, with a planned opening by the end of May.

They also plan to open two Smoothie King Stores in Charlotte, one on the west side of the city in early 2016, and another on the east side shortly thereafter.

According to Derek Bullard, Spartanburg is their priority right now, because the city has numerous development opportunities and is a good market for the store. He adds that people have been very supportive and this confirms his perceptions of the area, and that he and Lavon have always been fans of Smoothie King.

Derek began looking for opportunities in 2012 after he sold his in-home healthcare company to a private equity group out of Boston. Lavon’s background is in hospitality.

There will be a drive-thru in each store and about 15 employees, of which 12 will be part-time and the rest will be managers. The space will include an area for offices, as well as the store.

The menu for Smoothie King includes a range of fitness enhancers, smoothies, supplements, and snacks. With all these new stores, there will be many opportunities for printing companies, including promotional Flyers and catering Menus.
