The inaugural co-educational esports program of Converse University in Spartanburg will be coming to a space in the historic Drayton Mills Marketplace.
The space spans 2,500 square feet and is two miles from the main campus of the university. It features ceilings reaching 25 feet high, wide windows, exposed brick, and modern glass doors. Faculty members and students form the Interior Design and Graphic Design department will be working together on design elements for the space to make it an attention grabber while remaining aesthetically pleasing. There will be equipment for the Valkyries esports team, gaming stations, and a supportive infrastructure. Local Print shops are often hired by such colleges to promote new programs and their facilities.
Rising esports athletes from high schools in the area will be able to use the space for community events, camps, and clubs, to nurture their passion for esports. Live-streamed esports competitions will also be created and broadcasted by the university from the space to the main campus, which will engage the community and provide information technology experience for students as they broadcast their events.
There are 40 students who will be in the inaugural co-educational esports program this fall, many of whom are coming from all over the world in addition to students currently enrolled at Converse. The space is expected to be ready for students this month.
