Spartanburg will soon be the home to a new distribution center for the Rite Aid Corporation.
The building will measure 900,000 square feet in size, employ nearly 600 people, and support approximately 1,000 Rite Aid stores in the southeastern United States with their inventory and fulfillment needs. The cost for this new center will be $90m.
According to Rite Aid chairman and CEO, John Standley, Spartanburg is the best location for the new distribution center. He adds that the company is appreciative of the support and cooperation that the state gave it during the selection process and is looking forward to building the new center which will help it to streamline its supply chain and better serve its customers and stores in the region.
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley added that having Rite Aid’s new distribution in Spartanburg will create hundreds of jobs in the area. During the second half of 2015, information on employment opportunities in Spartanburg will be made available. Most likely, many of these new employees will need business card printing soon after they are hired.
Bobby Hitt, South Carolina Secretary of Commerce, added that with Rite Aid being a successful company recognized across the country, selecting South Carolina for a major distribution operation shows that the state has earned a reputation for being welcoming to businesses.
