The Dr. T.K. Gregg Community Center in Spartanburg is currently under construction and on time, with an expected opening date of the spring of next year.

The construction manager for the city, David Cook, said that there will be a community room in the center, which can be used for events and meetings by non-profit organizations. It will have a partition so the space can be divided for use by two groups at the same time. There will be a warming kitchen and projectors. Printing services can be used to create sign-up sheets for such areas to facilitate coordination of their use.

The center will also have another community room with flooring designed for community activities such as karate and yoga classes, a gym with a wooden floor, and walking track along the mezzanine, a workout room with equipment that will include elliptical machines and treadmills, and a lounge area with Wi-Fi access.

Large windows in the rooms will be a major feature of the community center and will give views of the downtown and surrounding areas as well as letting in natural light.

Cook said that work is being carried out on the indoor pool and the lap pool with an expected completion date of these in a few months. The goal, Cook said, is that the city is working on ensuring every child knows how to swim.
