New classic charter school in the works for Spartanburg

The Royal Holloway Academy is planning to come to Spartanburg.

Educator and founder of the Dudley Foundation for the Arts, Jamez Dudley, is hoping to open this charter school, which will have a classical curriculum focusing on the performing and visual arts. Dudley said that a location has not yet been chosen, and the application for the charter is currently underway with approval expected in the spring of next year.

Dudley added that a classical education uses logic, grammar, and rhetoric to create intellectual students. Classes will be based on the seminar style, which is often used on college campuses. Among the classes students can take will be visual arts classes in media such as photography, painting, drawing, and animation, as well as theatre, music, and dance. Such schools often turn to brochure printing to provide more details about classes and offerings.

The Royal Holloway Academy will be different to other schools in the county as it will offer bus transportation for residents in the county; will run classes from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and remain open until 6:30 p.m. for access to the library, equipment, and other services; and is open on Saturdays.

The school is scheduled to open in August 2022 with grades six through nine. An additional grade up to grade 12 will be added each year.
