Large residential development to come to Spartanburg

A major town home development project has been approved by the Spartanburg City Council.

The project, to be called Village Grove Townhomes, will include 95 new town homes to be built near the northern border of the city along the North Church Street corridor near the Spartanburg Medical Center. It will be on Florida Avenue between North Church Street and Dakota Avenue.

Banner printing is often used at such sites to announce such important developments.

The plan is to build 95 new town homes which will average 1,550 square feet in size and have three bedrooms and two bathrooms. At least 10 of the units will be reserved for affordable housing for those making 80 percent or below the median income in the area. The project will also have 2,000 square feet of commercial space, which is most likely to be a restaurant.

The project will be developed by VanRock Holdings, LLC and is expected to cost $23 million to build. The development agreement includes a commitment by Van Rock Holdings to work towards the trail development of the city in the area. Chris Story, City Manager, said that the project will become an important connector between trails in the University of South Carolina Upstate region and Cleveland Park and the Northside.

The project is expected to break ground in 2025, with activities of pre-construction likely to begin as early as next year.
