Spartanburg will become the home for a new excavator plant for Kobelco Construction Machinery, which will be producing a 20-ton excavator model beginning in 2016.
The company expects to finalize the purchase of the 85,000-acre site this month, and then build the facility and install equipment with an expected completion date of December. It now operates out of Katy, Texas, where it markets and manufactures five conventional excavator models, two excavator models for the demolition market, and 10 compact regular and radius excavator models.
According to Katsuhiko ‘Pete’ Morita, president and CEO, the plant in Texas was temporary until this new facility was built. It was needed as the factory in Hiroshima Itsukaichi, Japan, which produces excavators marketed in the United States, was working over its full capacity. In addition, the opportunity to move the Texas plant to South Carolina will enable the company to reorganize itself so as to integrate its production and sales departments.
This move may be a good opportunity for business card printing, as there most likely will be opportunities for many new jobs in the area and these employees will require traditional and digital Business Cards as part of their tools of the trade.
