What's Happening in Spartanburg, SC…

The city of Spartanburg has unveiled a deal that is proposed between the city and Johnson Development Associates (JDA) for the largest economic development project in the history of the city.

This development will include a new Minor League Baseball stadium, which will become the home of the current Down East Wood Ducks of Kinston, North Carolina. A renaming of the team will take place once it moves to its new home. Such sites often take advantage of banner printing to inform the community of such upcoming important projects.

The development is expected to cost $425 million and will cover four blocks in the downtown area. It will also include over 375 apartment units, a hotel with 150 rooms, office space spanning 200,000 square feet, a large public plaza, event space, and parking facilities to house at least 1,500 vehicles.

JDA will contribute $305 million towards the project to build the office space and commercial space in the project, the hotel, and three parking facilities. State funding in the amount of $54 million will go towards public infrastructure construction and the stadium. Additional funding will come from the Downtown Partnership Committee, the city, and funding from the Spartanburg County Accommodations Tax.

The project will be completed in phases. The first parking structure and the stadium will be part of the first phase, and will be completed by spring 2025.
