College in Spartanburg partners with school to offer degree

Spartanburg Community College (SCC) will be working with the Cherokee County School District to establish an Early College program.

This fall, there will be 30 students from the ninth and tenth grades who will be enrolled in special elective classes. These students will take high school classes first and then enroll in the Spring 2021 into college classes on the campus of SCC. This will enable these students over four years to receive both a high school diploma and an associate degree from SCC.

This program will be held in the Hoke Parris Business Training Center which has been renovated for this purpose. The district will also be able to use the entire first floor of the building for free. The courses themselves will be paid for by the school district at a deeply discounted rate of $75 per course.

Dr. Dana Fall, superintendent of the Cherokee County School District, said that this is a great opportunity for the community and the kids. In the long run, it will help these students to become more competitive not only locally but at the national level, she notes. Flyer printing can be used to promote the many benefits of such programs.

Henry Giles, former president of SCC who signed the agreement for the program, added that this program will be important for the future of the county.
