Spartanburg and the state of South Carolina will soon have their first center of philanthropy.
Troy Hanna, President and CEO, and Mary Thomas, COO, of the Spartanburg County Foundation made a presentation to the Spartanburg County Council recently with an update on the project. Earlier last month, the Design Review Board of the city approved the project.
The facility will be 15,000 square feet in size and adjacent to the headquarters of the foundation on East Kennedy Street. There will be shared meeting space in the facility with state-of-the-art technology and now all the non-profit groups that meet in various areas of the city will be able to meet at the new facility.
The name of the center will be the Robert Hett Chapman III Center for Philanthropy. This is in memory of the late Rob Chapman, who was CEO of Inman Mills and a former member of the board of the foundation.
Hanna said there will also be a Gallery of Philanthropy so that residents can engage with a museum of the history of Spartanburg, and be inspired to contribute to the future of the area. Print shops can be hired to print materials to distribute throughout such cities, notifying residents of new and upcoming exhibits as well as any change to permanent ones.
