Whataburger, a chain founded in Texas, is looking to open four locations in Spartanburg County. There will be one in Duncan, one in Boiling Springs, and two right here in Spartanburg.
These four restaurants will be the easternmost spots yet for the chain, which has a loyal and passionate following in its home state. This is part of a wider expansion planned for all across the country.
The Whataburger menu features burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads, as well as some lighter items and desserts.
A site plan has been approved for one shop to be on West O. Ezell Boulevard while the other location on East Main Street is still pending. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform residents of developments. David Britt, Spartanburg County Councilman, said that the decision of the chain to open in the Spartanburg area as part of its expansion into the Southeast makes a statement about the economic viability of the area.
A local retailer, Santiago Mariani, echoed the sentiments saying it is positive that in heading east, the chain decided to reach out to Spartanburg. He added that the chain has had good reviews, so it is exciting that it has plans to develop locations in the area.
The starting date of construction of both locations in Spartanburg has not been determined as yet.
