Highland Baking Company is planning to grow its existing facility in Spartanburg.
The company is on Asheville Highway and sells bread to wholesalers. The current building and infrastructure will be upgraded so that a new production line can be supported. The project is expected to cost $35m and create 80 jobs, some of which will no doubt require business card printing services.
Stu Rosen, CEO of Highland Baking Company, said that a major part of the success of the company over the last 10 years was due to its home in Spartanburg. Rosen added that this new investment demonstrates the confidence the company has in the staff at the bakery and in the community, and in its own strength moving forward.
Harry M. Lightsey III, Secretary of Commerce, said that the decision of Highland Baking Company to continue to invest in the county shows that South Carolina provides companies with what they need to be successful. He expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the company to the state and is looking forward to the impact the 80 new jobs will have in the region.
An amount of $100,000 in a set-aside grant has been awarded by the Coordinating Council for Economic Development to help with the costs of building improvements and site preparation.
The updated facility is expected to be completed by October 2023.
