Spartanburg will have a new option for adult education next year.
Palmetto Excel Center, a charter high school for adults in North Charleston affiliated with Palmetto Goodwill, is planning to open two new locations, one of which will be in Spartanburg while the other is in Sumter.
Megan Bandy, Marketing Communications Coordinator at Palmetto Excel Center, said that in the first year, the campus at Spartanburg will admit 150 students over the age of 21. Students at the center will be able to earn high school diploma or certifications recognized in the workforce at no cost. Other services at the center will include assistance with transportation, drop-in childcare, college credits, academic coaching, and career readiness services.

Chair of the board of Palmetto Excel, Lee Deas, said that the impact of the school on students is already apparent in the Charleston area. He said that the first graduates of the school, which opened last summer, are now pursuing new career opportunities as well as college degrees. He added that the school is looking forward to carrying out this same life-changing work in the state and everyone is excited to engage the community of Spartanburg in developing a school that will best meet their needs.
The Palmetto Excel Center is expected to open in Fall 2025.
