What's Happening in Anderson, SC…

The annual spring plant sale is coming up at the South Carolina Botanical Garden in Clemson, just northeast of Anderson.

No doubt the organizers of the event are using flyer printing and distributing notices throughout the region to let those who garden know that many different plant species will be available.

According to the nursery manager at the garden, Jeanne Briggs, this year’s theme is variety, with many species that are hard to find, ranging from annuals and perennials to landscape materials and vegetables. There will be some that are recognized as native plants, in addition to non-native varieties such as trillium, native azaleas, and Oconee bells. There will be more than 450 species of plants at the sale.

Proceeds from the plant sale go to help with the daily functioning of the garden and its special programs, some of which include nature walks and new projects. One of these is a collection of materials from the southwest, including agaves and cacti. Briggs commented that this is one of the largest on the east coast of the United States and a great find of eclectic and unique specimens of plants that will entice gardeners with different backgrounds and experience.

Friends of the Garden will be able to come early on Friday, April 10, and the general public will be able to come on April 11 and 12.
