Charity run returns to Anderson

Anderson will once again host the Champions Run for Special Children this March.

The 12th annual event involves participants gearing up with not only running shoes, but superhero capes. It’s all in the name of supporting differently-abled children and those with special needs.

Whether people choose to walk, roll or run, the certified 5K course is inclusive to all ages and abilities. A 1-mile fun run will also be part of the festivities.

With a theme of community unity to uplift others, awards will be given out in various categories, including best costumes. Awards are aimed at recognizing both teams and individuals, such as categories like spirited participants and the largest group.

There are also subcategories of group prizes, like family, sorority/fraternity, business, school or church. Individual awards are broken up into best overall, runner-ups, and various age brackets, from 9 and under to 70+, with roughly each decade having its own subcategory of winners. The best costume awards are broken up into adult male, adult female and child subcategories.

The race welcomes all skill levels, from competitive runners to more casual participants.

Running events like this may choose to use Print shops to create starting lines, clothing tags and vendor Signs.

The Champions Run for Special Children is happening on March 7 at 8:30 am at 2404 SC Hwy 81 in Anderson.
