The 26th Annual Celebrate Anderson weekend event at the Anderson Civic Center will welcome the decades-strong R&B act Kool and the Gang.
Known for Jungle Boogie and other hit tracks, the band was originally formed in 1964 and has undergone multiple genre switches and name changes over the years, though they’ve generally operated in the realm of R&B and dance music, including pop, disco and funk.
The band first rose to national prominence in the 1970s and have since generated multiple hit songs, with 31 gold and platinum albums under their belt, won seven American Music Awards and snagged two Grammys.
Founding member Robert “Kool” Bell is still going strong, performing with the current iteration of the band at music festivals to this day. They recently headlined the Jacksonville Jazz Festival.
With Kool and the Gang’s sights set on Anderson, they are bringing the toe-tapping tunes for a free concert sponsored by Anderson County. Though tickets must be reserved online, people are encouraged to bring blankets and camp chairs in the general admission lawn area. Furniture is prohibited in the standing room only area closer to the stage.
Concerts like this may choose to use flyer printing to spread the word of the event in the community.
Celebrate Anderson: Kool and the Gang is happening on Sunday, August 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Anderson Civic Center on Civic Center Boulevard.
