Anderson could be the home for a new Walmart Neighborhood Market.
The planning division of Anderson County recently received paperwork from an affiliate of Cypress Equities, the same development company from Dallas that brought other Walmart Neighborhood Markets to the County and spread them throughout South Carolina.
According to the development standards manager for Anderson County, Alesia Hunter, plans call for the store to be constructed on an area of land, nine acres in size, at the southeast corner of Pearman Dairy and Whitehall roads in Anderson. There would be 206 parking spaces and just over 41,000 square feet of space for retail. No more information will be known until the proposal is heard on January 12 at the Planning Commission.
Vice president of development at Cypress Equities, Cameron Aderhold, confirmed that a land-use application for consideration in Anderson had been submitted, but would not comment on the nature of the project until a more appropriate time. The company may use banner printing on the site once the plan is approved so the community can become aware of what will be constructed on the property.
Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn commented that having a Walmart in that area will be good for the neighborhood. County Administrator Rusty Burns added that once the potential Walmart is built, additional development in the area could follow.
