Recommendations suggested for Middletown downtown improvement project

Several recommended improvements to the Middletown Center project have been made by a citizens advisory board.

The Middletown Center Citizens Advisory Committee (MCCAC) has made several requests to the Town Council regarding the mixed-use development being proposed in town, including that it should have more active recreation, better pedestrian and bicycle access, and improved landscaping. The MCCAC has also asked that the impact of a proposed hotel, a stormwater runoff connected to the project, and the resulting traffic be reduced.

Current plans call for housing on one third of the site in several three-story buildings, with a hotel with 144 rooms on the southern end of the property. The middle part of the property would have mixed office and retail space and a new Middletown Public Library.

Over the past six months, the MCCAC has been meeting to review details of the plan for the site that includes the former Kennedy School, the recreational complex on West Main Road, the former Navy Lodge, and the Middletown Public Library.

Residents can be made aware of such plans and recommendations with Flyers and other printed materials created by local printing services.

The Town Council thanked the volunteer group for the feedback and liked the recommendations. They agreed that the items which the MCCAC raised should be brought to the attention of the developers. This was the first time that the entire Town Council heard about the efforts of the MCCAC.
