The Police Department of Middletown will be holding a Citizens Police Academy beginning later this month.
The academy is where residents have the opportunity to better understand the police department and its personnel also learn more about its divisions and daily operations and the services the department provides for the residents of the town and the state.
There will be instruction in the classroom, with presentations by members of the department who are part of the Rhode Island State Police High Intensity Drug Task Force and the Marshals Office of the United States.
Among the topics to be covered will be traffic enforcement, reconstruction of accidents, defensive tactics, and investigation of crime scenes. Another topic about which participants will learn will be the K-9 unit. Participants will also use a firearm simulation machine and ride along with patrol cars on their daily routine.
Print shops are often hired for such academies to create printed materials with more information about the topics covered in sessions.
Those who can attend the academy must be 18 years of age and residents of Middletown. The program will begin on Monday, March 30 and last eight weeks until Monday, May 18. The sessions will run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and take place at the Middletown Police Department in the front lobby. Attendees may want to check updated details with the organizers in light of the ongoing coronavirus concerns.
