More than $1.2m was recently raised at a special celebration in honor of the 150th anniversary of Newport Hospital and the creation of a new adolescent behavioral health unit to serve youth in the region.
This event was part of a fundraising effort to raise $5m to develop an adolescent behavioral health unit with eight beds at the hospital. Bradley Hospital will partner in the development, which will serve those between the ages of 12 and 18 with acute mental health issues, and provide treatment, assessment, and stabilization for aggressive, suicidal, and other behavioral conditions. Residents of nearby Middletown may benefit from this, with the hospital being just a couple of miles away.
In addition to the new unit and beds, the area of the hospital where the new unit will be housed will be completely renovated with activity spaces, modern and bright group therapy rooms, and an enclosed therapeutic area outdoors. More information and such new spaces and the services offered can be made available with brochure printing.
President of Newport Hospital, Crista Durand, said that the vision to establish Newport Hospital in 1873 was to provide the best medical care possible to those in the local community. Durand added that now the hospital has the opportunity to expand its services and make a difference for the most vulnerable teenagers in the area.
