When it comes to tree identification, many depend on leaf shape to determine the species and cultivar. In winter this may not be possible, but there are many other characteristics that can be used to make a successful tree ID, and this will be the focus of a Pittsburgh event.
A winter tree ID walk has been planned for the city. The participants will be led on a guided walk through Highland Park, and while they stroll, they will discover how even trees with bare branches can still be identified with ease.
Certified Arborists will be leading the walk, and the group will discover how they can use characteristics such as bark, tree shape, habitat and other factors can all be used to help figure out the species and cultivar of a tree. There is space for up to 15 members of the public, and tickets are $10.
The organizers explained that the event is not suitable for younger kids, and it is reserved for those who are at least 16 years of age. Booklets that contain more tips for tree identification can be provided to each of the learners in this sort of activity can be prepared by a professional brochure printing company.
December 14 will see this group of walkers take to the trails of Highland Park to brush upon their tree ID skills. Its scheduled start time is 10:00 am.
