Spring cleanup of e-waste planned for Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh will soon be hosting an e-waste shredding and recycling day, which can help to divert electronic material away from landfills and maybe even find it a new home.

When it ends up in the environment, unwanted computers, cellphones and other e-waste can be a significant source of pollution, but there is an alternative. CyberCrunch will be collecting a large assortment of e-waste, which is will then dispose of safely and securely. Some will be accepted free of charge, but there may be a small fee for certain items.

Desktop systems, tablets, hard drives and servers can be dropped off for free, but there will be a small charge for hard drive shredding. Cellphones, MP3 players, some computer peripherals, phones, wiring, and AC adopters will also be disposed of at no cost. Monitors, TVs, video and audio equipment, VCRs and DVD players, small devices that contain Freon, and household/consumer waste will be accepted for a fee.

Along with benefiting the environment, this event will also do good in the local community, as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Mount Lebanon Library. Having proper business Forms and other materials can aid in keeping this sort of function running smoothly, and these can be obtained from local Print shops.

Anyone in Pittsburgh who has some e-waste they would like to dispose of safely is welcome to attend this event. It will be held at Mt. Lebanon Library on March 23, and a full list of what can and cannot be accepted can be found on its online listing.
