Pittsburgh to celebrate seed saving

Seed saving is a skill that may be very beneficial to the home gardener, and a Pittsburgh event will put this activity front and center.

Grow Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and the Phipps Conservatory has scheduled the 13th annual Seed Swap event. It will combine connection with learning, and everyone will be able to meet their fellow area home horticulturalists.

The participants on the day will be offered seats in a variety of workshops, and seed starting, seed saving and the basics of organic gardening are all on the agenda. There will be opportunities for the crowd to mingle and share tips and best practices, and everyone who would like to bring their own non-GMO and untreated seeds to swap is encouraged to do so.

There will be hands-on fun for younger attendees, and there will be an opportunity for everyone to go home with some seeds for their own garden.

Seed swaps have become increasingly popular in recent years, and they provide a fun and thrifty way for gardeners to add to their own plant collection. Paper seed storage Envelopes, planting tip sheets, registration Forms, plant tags and other custom printed materials for function will be available at a local printing services company.

The main branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will be showcasing the value of seed saving with its Celebration of Seeds on March 8. It will be on offer at 4400 Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh.
