The 11th annual South Side Soup Contest is being held in Pittsburgh in February, and is a fundraiser for the Brashear Association Food Pantry and the South Side Chamber of Commerce.
A contest that sells out quickly every year, those who wish to try soup pay a fee to entitle them to samples. Several South Side businesses and restaurants provide samples of soup prepared by local chefs. So far, around 50 participants have signed up for this year's contest and they will compete for several awards, including Best Soup, Most Unique, and Best Host.
Organizers are still looking for sponsors and for volunteers to help serve soup. Visitors are also asked to bring nonperishable food items to donate to the food pantry, with peanut butter, tuna, and baby food in especially high demand.
No doubt those participating in the contest will want to let the public know they are participating. They may do this by investing in Banners from local printing companies that can be displayed outside of their businesses.
The South Side Soup Contest is taking place on February 21 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Tickets are $25 and go on sale on February 6, and trigger fingers may be needed as they sold out in five minutes last year.
