Pittsburgh teens who would like to flex their creative muscles may enjoy being part of a camp that will introduce them to glass-making techniques.
Pittsburgh Glass Center will be hosting day camps for teens only, and the sessions will run throughout the day. Those between the ages of 12 and 18 are welcome to sign up now, and parents can choose to register their son or daughter for just one session or all four of them.
The campers will have a chance to gain some experience in crafting with glass, and they will be working in an actual art studio. They will be guided by experienced glass artists, and kiln-forming, flameworking, and coldworking methods are all on the agenda. Each day will run from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, and scholarships are on offer for any families that would like to participate but are having trouble meeting the cost of the registration fee.
Any hands-on activity like this can spark an interest in glassmaking in the younger set, and it also gives them a chance to make new friends and have fun. Materials from a poster printing company may help to generate a buzz in the community about the function.
Pittsburgh Glass Center, which is located at 5472 Penn Avenue, will be hosting the first session of its day camps on June 19. The Kidsburgh website can be consulted for more information.
