An upcoming Pittsburgh activity will give educators some tips for making the most of their school gardens.
A school garden gives kids an opportunity to get their hands dirty while they learn about Mother Nature and where their food comes from. The teachers and other educational professionals who attend the Wrapping Up the School Garden Season: Final Harvest & Winterizing Tips workshop will learn how to prepare their plantings so they will survive the deep cold of winter. Grow Pittsburgh has organized the function, and Garden Dreams Urban Farm and Nursery will be the venue for the day.
The activity will offer a discussion about how to make the most of the harvest of vegetables and fruit, as well as helping to get the plants ready so they will be protected from cold and ice. Recipes will be provided, and free childcare may be on offer if needed. Dinner will be served, and everyone can ask questions and share their own best practices.
Many schools run horticultural programs; Print shops may prove to be valuable partners in promoting events like this. They can supply weatherproof signage for use in a garden, as well as bound textbooks and other learning materials.
This meet and greet for educators including gardening in their curriculum will begin at 6:00pm on November 15th. The location is set for 806 Holland Avenue in Pittsburgh.Get a Free Quote for Print
