Pittsburgh event to show some love to area moths

Tree Pittsburgh will be celebrating National Moth Week with a special event that will make these ubiquitous insects the stars of the show, and all ages are invited to be a part of this nighttime event.

The participants in this free session will be introduced to the wide assortment of moths that call the Pittsburgh area home. The learning will begin indoors with a presentation by a lepidopteran expert, and after this, the participants will head outdoors to observe moths in their natural environment.

When the group is taking part in the outside portion of the workshop, they will head to Tree Pittsburgh’s tree nursery to visit some moth light stations. They will also discover the other insects that can be found on the property and learn more about them as well.

This opportunity to make friends with the moths is open to all ages, and the organizers have suggested that everyone who registers should bring along their camera and a flashlight as well. Stationery printers can prepare color photo sheets that show the species likely to feature in this sort of event. These can aid in identification, and if they are laminated, they can be used over and over again.

This chance for the public to learn more about moths and the role they play in their environment will be held on July 24 at 32 62nd Street.
