The art of dying fabric using indigo blue pigments has been practiced for many years. A class that will combine old style fabric handling techniques with modern day tools will be hosted by Pittsburgh’s Full Pint Wild Side Pub, and all skills levels, from newbies on up, are welcome.
The class will be taught at least four methods that can be used to dye fabric in a variety of designs. The learners will be able to gain some experience with these techniques using scrap muslin, and once they are ready, they can put their new skills into practice to dye articles of their own clothing.
The cost to be a part of the workshop is $52, and this includes the practice fabrics as well as the dyestuffs and design materials. As dying can be thirsty work, the attendees will also receive either a soft drink or a glass of draft beer.
Each of the participants can bring along up to four piece of clothing to dye, but they must be made from either rayon or cotton. A request has been made that the items not be bulky, although each person is welcome to bring along one pair of jeans to color. Instruction for the various methods that will be taught can be provided to this sort of learning opportunity by a company that produces Letterheads and other printed items.
This event, which has been planned for those who are “dyeing” to have a great time, will be held on August 18. Tickets are on offer for those who are 21 years of age and up.
