Pittsburgh class to craft feathered friends

Cedar waxwings are a type of bird that calls the Pittsburgh area home, and those who attend a crafting workshop will be using a needle and fleece to create their own visions of these creatures.

The staff at Contemporary Craft will be welcoming the public for a virtual workshop that will introduce needle felting techniques. It is one of the instalments in its Bird of the Month series, which it hosts in partnership with the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania.

This two-hour activity will teach the basics of needle felting, and both newbies and those with some previous experience are welcome. Care will be taken to ensure that the markings found on cedar waxwings will be faithfully included in the final design, and while the group works, they will have an opportunity to hear details about these birds. A kit of materials needed to complete the project is available for an additional fee.

A function like this that combines crafting with a chance to learn about local wildlife may be popular. Packaging supplies for the crafting kits can be prepared by a printer’s graphic design department.

The registration fee for this hands-on activity is $60, and the kits can be ordered for an additional $10. These may be picked up at Contemporary Craft ahead of the class itself on September 25.
