Pittsburgh’s growing reputation in the tech sector is making people wonder if they should rename a portion of its downtown community Silicon Strip.
While the city’s economy has traditionally been dominated by steel mills, the past two decades have witnessed its transition into to the tech sector. The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership and a select number of developers have therefore toyed with naming the downtown location Silicon Strip to acknowledge the growth of this important new sector of its economy. This section of the city spans between the Strip District and Oakland into Larimer and East Liberty.
There have been numerous companies opening offices in Pittsburgh, ranging from Google and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Technology Development Center to TechShop Pittsburgh. With all of these new offices come thousands of workers, which means even more Business Cards are being printed by local printing companies.
After Jeremy Waldrup, PDP president and CEO, and Aaron Stauber, president of Ruby Realty, saw firsthand the awareness of Pittsburgh’s tech sector during a trip to San Francisco, and the two came up with the idea of renaming the area.
While some people are cautioning moving too quickly with this branding, others, such as Dan McCaffery, CEO of McCaffery Interests, are very excited. McCaffery’s firm was part of the development team responsible for the Cork Factory in the Strip.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
