Friday food tours build up local appetite

The Flavor of Pittsburgh food culture tour got underway this month. Held on intermittent Fridays, it will continue until April.

The tour begins at Crazy Mocha in Market Square and is three hours long. Guests get the opportunity to visit various restaurants and sample a portion of the different food offerings. They also get to find out about all the stories from behind the scenes of restaurants, the likes of which patrons usually do not get to hear. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will go to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

This event, which allows patrons to sample local food and restaurants to promote themselves, came about because of Pittsburgh being dubbed by various food critics and magazines as the ‘Next Big Food City’. Many of the restaurants have been featured on Food Network programs such as ‘Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives’.

To attract tour participants from all over the area, including nearby North Versailles, organizers may have invested in flyer printing services. Flyers are inexpensive to produce and are versatile in how they can be distributed.

The Flavor of Pittsburgh Food Culture Tour takes place on January 2, 9, and 16 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm each day. Tickets are $80 each, $150 for two, $200 for three, and $260 for four. The current program of tours concludes on April 10.
