Pittsburgh’s The Artsmiths is offering a class that will provide an opportunity for those who would like to learn how to craft using stained glass, and it is open to anyone who would like to take part.
A stained glass ornament can look pretty in any window, and creating a sun catcher can be a fun way to learn the basic skills needed to work using this medium. The workshop, which will be at the beginner level, will create the sun catchers from scratch.
The students will cut and shape the glass, and use foil and solder to finish the piece. Rachel Copper will provide the instruction, and the total cost for the afternoon will be $60.
The students in the session will be guided through the steps needed to complete the project, and all the materials needed will be provided. Each participant will be given glass remnants, solder, and copper foil, as well as the use of the glass cutters, soldering irons, and other tools needed for the task at hand.
This workshop is scheduled to take three hours, and it will begin at 2:00 pm. A printing services provider will be able to produce printed instruction sheets and even bound manuals that can be given out to those who participate in a class like this.
The stained glass sun catcher class will be held on February 2 at 1635 McFarland Road. Registration can be completed online or by calling 412.341.2299 x2.
