YMCA could boost downtown of Tigard

A man from Oregon is trying to revitalize Tigard by campaigning for a YMCA in the center of the city.

Neal Brown has a vision in which recreation can play a big role in the future of Tigard. He has worked with builders and architects on the practicalities of the project.

The authorities of Tigard have not accepted the proposal as yet. However, those involved in the governance of the city have felt obliged to formally recognize the initiative on receipt of a petition.

The quality and quantity of the campaigning of Brown have impressed a local councilor. If the city authorities endorse his ideas, then they may use Stationery printers and other printing services in Tigard to promote the project.

Brown has told The Oregonian:

“If we don't do something, then in 10 years we'll still be sitting here saying, 'Gee, wouldn't it be nice to have a place [for recreation].'"

Brown has carried out some research with regard to possible locations for a YMCA. He has identified a space where Southwest Ash Avenue and Southwest Burnham Street are adjacent to one another.

The city authorities have consented to look at a feasibility study if residents contribute to the work in question. However, the city councilors have retained the option to launch a recreation policy of their own making.
