Tigard Rotarians help to keep kids warm again this winter

Two Tigard Rotary Clubs have come together to help make sure that local kids have the coats they need to stay warm as the temperatures plummet.

Their efforts, part of a project named Operation Warm, saw hundreds of pieces of warm clothing go to charitable groups in the area that will make sure they reach those who need them. The Tigard Rotarians have been doing this for the past six years. This year alone, 450 coats were bought and have been donated to those in need.

In July, several clubs applied for grants from Rotary International, who provide as much as $2,000 to each club that requests it. This was combined with contributions from individual members. The coats were then bundled into Boxes of six, which could be purchased by individual members and were then given to local not-for-profit organizations. Business Forms can be specially designed and printed to help make sure their efforts go as smoothly as possible.

Operation Warm first began in the 1990s when a Rotarian in Pennsylvania saw some kids on television huddling in the cold at a bus stop. He wanted to provide help quickly, so he bought 60 coats and donated them to their school. Since then, it has taken off, with firefighters and Rotary Clubs across the nation all taking part. All told, more than a million pieces of warm clothing have been contributed.
