The Tigard Library recently held a drive to collect as much food as possible for those in the community who are experiencing hardship. The numbers have been tallied, and they indicate that the institution’s efforts were a success.
According to a representative of the library, it once again held its annual ‘Food For Fines’ drive, where people were encouraged to bring in a donation of nonperishable food items, and in exchange, the library would forgive up to $10 worth of overdue fines that had been levied against that person’s account. For each item brought in to contribute to a local food pantry, $1 was taken off the amount, if any, that the person owed.
The library reported that in all, $1,714 in fines were forgiven, which it says is slightly above the $1,674 that were waived last year. This translated into the same amount of donated food, which totaled 3,400lb in this year’s campaign alone.
The contributions that were collected were given to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, which operates from Tigard’s St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Poster printing can be used to create an assortment of different materials that promote an effort like this to the surrounding community. This can help to make it as successful as possible.
