The event in question was held for the first time during 2014. This year, a demonstration of graffiti gave the walk a colorful beginning. Postcard printing in Tigard may make use of pictures of the art put on display.
John Goodhouse, a local city councilor, said to The Oregonian:
“This is what people have been wanting for a long time: a vibrant downtown, somewhere that's really the center of Tigard.”
Goodhouse has asserted that the art walk has the capacity to add character to the Main Street area. He has also pointed out that the art can promote conversation.
Elise Shearer, the event coordinator, has noted that the driving force behind the event last year was economic. She has indicated that the downtown section of Tigard had been finding it difficult financially because of the disruption caused by construction work. Shearer has contended that in 2014, the downtown area received approximately 150 visitors, which it would not otherwise have got due to the pull of the event.
A coalition of groups worked together to make the event happen in 2015. The city of Tigard has combined with the Tigard Downtown Alliance and the Tigard Area Chamber of Commerce, with the assistance of more than $50,000 from the Washington County Visitors’ Association.
