Students in Tigard raise funds for finding a cure

Izzy Pope and Theo Jones, two seniors from Tigard High School, along with 25 other students from the school, have launched a fundraising campaign.

The goal is to raise funds to help cure myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, lymphoma, and leukemia, and improve the quality of life for the patients and their families, by raising $30,000. The students are also participating in the Student Visionaries Program of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Societies.

Pope said fundraising efforts will include selling stickers of a local legend, Craig Benjamin, which will be available for purchase from Tigard High School students and then eventually using a form. One student on the fundraising team is selling bracelets that read “THS for LLS.” Pope added that they are considering organizing a 5K run or walk.

Flyer printing is one way to inform the community of such opportunities to donate to a worthy cause, and the benefits of their donations.

Pope said she became involved with the Student Visionaries Program when she was a freshman, helping a friend while she was living in San Diego. She said that she enjoyed it so much, she wanted to continue her work in Tigard. She asked Jones to help her this year with fundraising efforts. Jones said that he wanted to be part of the efforts to help fight cancer and feels that he is doing something for a good cause.
