Tigard will be hosting the second annual El Tigre Fest this fall at Cook Park.
This event is part of the celebrations for Hispanic Heritage Month and will support restaurant owners, business owners, and other members of the Hispanic and Latino community. This will be a family-friendly cultural event that will feature authentic Latin America arts and crafts, dancing, food, live music, and activities for children.
The Logo Design for the El Tigre Fest was put together by Alex Villalobos, a first-generation, Mexican American from Long Beach, California. His graphic design was inspired by the early uniform of the Pericos de Puebla, which was one of the first Mexican baseball teams. The logo combines the animal characteristics of the Alebrijes in Mexican and Oaxacan culture with traditional Latino Folk Art.
The festival was named El Tigre because the logo, which is a stylized tiger, acknowledges the animal spirit to help people during the Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. It is now known as the Tigard Tiger.
Attendees can start celebrating the festival with a book. There are several new novels honoring Hispanic Heritage Month that have recently been released, as well as several graphic novels for children that feature featuring Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx characters, authors, and artists.
The El Tigre Fest will take place on Saturday, October 7.
