New plaza to come to downtown Tigard

The Tigard City Council is expected to vote on a proposal to fund the design and engineering of the Nick Wilson Memorial Plaza.

Located next to Cooper Mountain Ale Works on Main Street, the total cost for this will be $430,737.

The name of the plaza is in memory of a former member of the Tigard City Council, Nick Wilson, who was an advocate for such public spaces and took part in 2014 in the feasibility study for the plaza. Wilson was a co-founder of Atlas Landscape Architecture, which is above what is now Cooper Mountain Ale Works.

The plaza is planned to span 6,000 square feet and include a trail connection over an easement that the adjacent pub uses as an egress driveway. There would be widening of another driveway to allow for two-way traffic. The project will provide a new connection to Fanno Creek Trail and better access to the recreational and natural resources offered by the creek.

The redevelopment project manager for Tigard, Sean Farrelly, said that there will be distinctive features on the plaza such as landscape and lighting although the concept of the design plan may change over time. More details about such projects and their features are often provided with flyer printing.

Once approved, construction on the trail connection and plaza is expected to take 28 months.
