Museum in Tigard to feature new murals

The new Outdoor Museum in Tigard now has a new addition.

The addition consists of two murals painted by Joshua Lawyer and MJ Lindo-Lawyer, and was commissioned by City Hall. The murals feature references to wildlife, water, and the area’s culture and history. Lindo-Lawyer expressed her appreciation in being selected for this project. She is a professional muralist who has many largescale works in Mexico and California.

The two murals focus on the Kalapuyan people, the earliest inhabitants of the valley, which they learned about through the Tualatin Historical Society and the Five Oaks Museum. There are large animals acting as spiritual guides, leading a young woman on a fishing journey. The two murals also respond to one another in terms of contrasts in color; one is painted in muted blue colors while the other is mainly in bright shades of orange.

Local printing companies can also be commissioned to promote such exhibits with Posters placed at key locations throughout the community.

The Museum is an exhibition stretching three quarters of a mile that follows the Tigard Heritage Trail. This was once a railroad bed that connected housing areas and employment to Main Street. A grant of $75,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts, and funds from the Washington County Visitors Association, support the Museum.
